Rob Machado's favourite performance thruster to date.
Rob feels l like his designs are slowly moving in the direction of being more and more performance driven. After stopping the tour, Rob went as far away from high performance as Rob could. Rob wanted to feel what all these different designs had to offer out there in the world. Twins, single fins, bonzers...etc
The groove is an exploration back into the world of a high performance thruster but with an outline twist, giving you some width and thickness up front for extra paddle-ability but giving you a nice pulled in squash tail for high performance shred-ability.
Rob designed it for waves with a bit of push and power. Probably waist high to overhead. But it goes great in weak waves too, I just wouldn't go as far as calling it a groveler.
To tap back into my old school high performance days, my Groove Thruster set is a must. To add a bit of a twist in smaller surf, you can run it with my 2+1 template.
FEATURES:
- Construction is Helium Core Technology: A stringerless EPS core with flex controlled at the rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood - this construction is light and lively underfoot, and excellent at generating speed in everyday waves. Rob Machado calls the parabolic flex control provided by the wooden rails in the Machadocado "good for drive on rail and control in critical sections."
- Tail Shape: Round Tail
- Wave Type: This shape excels in everything head-high and under. But if you take it on a boat trip, that works too. "I build versatility into every design he shapes," says Rob Machado. "I build speed and ease-of-use in every surfboard I make."
- Board Shape Details by Rob Machado: "Thinned out the foil, narrowed the tail block. Added a cute little squash tail. And much more rocker than I've been riding the last several years. I tapped into all my performance DNA that was in my shapes in the 90s, and added sprinkles of my recent design work, making surfboards that are fast, floaty and fun in all conditions." - Rob Machado.
